Mohammedamin Abdullah

I grew up in Addis Ababa thinking computers were magic.
Turns out they're just tools. The hard part is knowing what to build with them.

I've spent the last few years finding out — accelerating startups in Ethiopia, building carbon markets in the bamboo forests of Oromia, shipping a Quran app from scratch, and training Muay Thai between all of it. This site is where those threads meet.

[ 01 / About ]

Operator. Builder. Writer. Fighter.

I studied computer science in Glasgow. The degree gave me structure. The work gave me everything else.

Since graduating, I've run acceleration programs for founders across Ethiopia, closed a $3M carbon deal, built an education company from zero to 350+ students placed, and shipped a consumer product with 4,000 daily users. I do all of this from Addis Ababa — which is either a disadvantage or the whole point, depending on who you ask.

I think the most interesting problems sit at the edge of fields: where finance meets ecology, where technology meets faith, where discipline meets uncertainty. That's where I tend to show up.

Glasgow for the degree. Addis for everything since.

[ 02 / Work ]

Systems built under real constraints.

The through-line is execution under messy conditions: capital that has to close, systems that have to survive contact with the field, and products that have to earn trust one interaction at a time.

[ 03 / Writing ]

Thinking in public.

I write when something doesn't fit in a conversation.
Most of it is about carbon markets, East African infrastructure, and what it actually takes to build things in places where the infrastructure isn't ready. Some of it is personal. All of it is unfinished thinking made public.

Condensed transcript.
The degree built the base layer. The rest came from self-directed study, operating pressure, and work that did not allow abstraction to stay abstract.

The disciplines behind the work.

What keeps the rest of the site from becoming pure resume language: the practices, tastes, and private standards that shape how I move.

[ Muay Thai ]

Amateur fighter.

Fighting taught me that composure is physical. You learn to absorb pressure, make decisions under fatigue, and commit without becoming reckless. That discipline shows up everywhere else.

[ Records ]

I've been collecting records since I was nineteen. Mostly jazz, West African funk, Ethiopian oldies, and things I can't categorise. There's a particular feeling when you find something physical that someone made with their whole life. I'm still chasing that feeling.

Build something worth finishing.

I'm most useful when the problem is real and the timeline is serious.
If you're building something in climate, education, or emerging markets — or if you need someone who can move between a spreadsheet and a field site — let's talk. I'm not hard to reach.
